have you ever had a migraine? i had a teacher in junior high who was youngish (about my current age...::sob::) and she would get migraines all the time and she would miss school a lot for migraines. i was always like "psh, it can't be THAT bad". i was like everyone gets headaches, it's just a bad headache. "until you've actually HAD a migraine, you can shove it" i says to my younger self.
the first time i got a migraine, i thought i was having an aneurysm. scariest shit of my life. i was a 2nd year in college and i was just writhing around in the worst pain of my life. it was the first time i'd ever called out sick at my job. all i wanted to do was fall asleep and lying down made it worse. it was like a little crew of head gnomes had taken up residence in my skull and started jack hammering various points across my head and neck, whilst playing terrible, pulsing music behind my eyeballs. nothing made it feel better. only time eventually made it subside. i don't really remember getting many more in college, but they started up with a vengeance the summer i moved back to the valley.
anyway. they hurt. mine get worse if i'm horizontal which generally eliminates sleep, and they typically make me nauseous, but i've only thrown up because of a migraine a couple of times. i've been on 4 different types of medication for the migraines in 3 years. none of them PREVENT them though which would be my ultimate wish. i don't know what causes them, there never seems to be a common factor. they're just pills to alleviate the pain once it starts. anyway. i got a migraine last night. i took a pill (prescribed medication #4). migraine intensified so i took a vicodin (prescribed medication #3). it laid off a little but persisted. 3 hours later i took a second vicodin and passed out. best sleep of my life.
a really annoying side effect is the day after a migraine i always feel "delicate". like i'm on the cusp of a relapse. any little thing could push me back into the realm of the migraine. hopefully tomorrow is better.
anyway. weekend was good. did a 5k yesterday with the mom and brother at dodger stadium. it was fun! like taking a long stroll and chatting with the family. i was really glad we went. we were walking back to the car and this kid to our right was walking with his family and he goes "that was cool, now let's go to arby's". joe and i looked at each other and mom goes "well...i guess we're going to arby's". ha. i love my family.
